India won the inaugural World Cup of twenty20! It was a dream ride really! Beating Australia in the semis and then now taking Pakistan apart.
Pakistan played followed the Reagan-esque strategy in the game. They were hitting the Indian bowlers all over the place but also losing wickets. The hope was that they will reach the low score of 157 faster than they will be bowled out of the game. It almost succeeded with Misbah scoring a flurry of sixes all the over park and taken the run-rate from almost 13 an over down to almost 8.
The noteworthy performances from Pakistan were Imran Nazir, Younis Khan, Misbah, Yasir and Sohail Tanvir in the end. Misbah scored a six before he was caught by Sreesanth.
I believe the pick of Indian bowlers was RP Singh. He has turned out to be a fine bowler. Sreesanth was among wickets but then he also gave away far too many runs (44 runs off 4 overs). Joginder (2 wickets in 3.3 overs for 20 runs) and RP Singh (3 wickets in 4 overs for 27 runs) were the best of the lot!
From the batting front – Gautam Gambhir was the one who scored the highest at a fast clip – 75 runs.
For a team which really hadn’t played this form of cricket before this. It is a great win!
