Unorthodox Service: An Interview with Jon Cobb

Unorthodox Service: An Interview with Jon Cobb August 28, 2017

How can God use a trained killer?

Growing up, Jon Cobb always wanted to be a protector. He’s just one of those guys who are naturally very empathetic. However, sometimes empathy came in conflict with the jobs he’d be working.

Not to mention, being compassionate and working in dark places made Jon angry at God. But he always processed his anger with God by talking to God. It’s amazing what good communication… especially prayer… can achieve!

So, over the course of Jon’s life, he has continued that conversation, asking God how God would use a guy like him.

I mean… how can God use a trained killer?

Here are just a few of the things Jon and I discuss:How can God use a trained killer?

  • Jon started training to fight at 12 and still loves training to fight
  • How does he balance his faith with a life of fighting and protecting others?
  • Living in Gods truth
  • Jon’s “Jesus story”
  • How Jon kept God his center while serving in the USMC
  • Others laughed at his faith, but when anyone needed help, they would come to Jon
  • Work hard, do your best and knock out the biggest guy in the room – in the name of Jesus
  • How being a dad made his life better and what being a dad taught him about God
  • Jon’s Favorite bible verses:
    • For the Lordyour God is living among you.
          He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. (Zephaniah 3:17)
    • Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you. (Psalm 51:12)
  • What Brazilian Jiu Jitsu move should every man know? The Turkish Get Up & Rear Naked Choke

This is just part of Jon’s story. You’ve got to listen to what God has done throughout his life to mold him into the man he is today… a trained killer who loves living for God!
