This week, we are digging in on how to protect our kids from today’s media that tells them that their only value comes from their sexuality. From Rihanna to Flo Rida to Nicki Minaj… sex sells. But what is the motive behind it all? Now, for Merv’s household, they got rid of cable television altogether. He knows this doesn’t mean that his kids won’t encounter this “sales pitch” outside of their home, but it is Merv’s and his wife’s... Read more

My goal in this PODCAST? Simple: To keep you out of jail. Yes, this story in Matthew 17 is THAT positively practical. It’s interesting to me that of the four Gospel writers (for reasons that we’ll get into in the podcast), only Matthew records this particular story about (of all things) an obscure Old Testament reference to an otherwise obtuse Moses-mandated responsibility, one that Jesus had apparently overlooked or outright rejected. It’s not surprising to me that Matthew records this.... Read more

It’s good manners to be thankful, so we have this holiday once a year to remember to be thankful. But, why not have other “manner-related” holidays? Pleasegiving. We could have it the day before Thanksgiving, and if you don’t do Pleasegiving, you don’t get to eat Thanksgiving. Other potential holidays: OpenTheDoorForStrangersGiving, NoInteruptingConversationsGiving, ForkOnTheLeftOfThePlatesGiving, CoverYourNoseWhenYouSneezeGermsNonGiving, NoBelchingInElevatorsGiving… just a few ideas. Now, we used to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV when we were kids. I loved seeing the large, looming inflatable... Read more

Always remember that God has entrusted your kids to you and therefore, you are the primary disciplers of your kids.  Now, while there are no guarantees, we are still called to offer them every opportunity to come to Jesus and grow in their relationships with Him. So, today we’re going to spend some time talking about family devotions.  This is often a dreaded concept for some parents because they are afraid that their kids are going to ask some... Read more

I was married to the love of my life, we had two young boys, and that summer we drove our Dodge Caravan to Austin, TX, where for the first two weeks it was 112 degrees! Everything was brown, the region was in a drought, and I thought about... Read more

(The following was originally published at www.CareyGreen.com.) The Mindset Struggle is very real… One day you wake up feeling great, ready to conquer the world! The very next day you wake up feeling down or depressed and want to give up. It’s a constant cycle that comes around at different intervals for different people, but the reality is that no matter what degree of difficulty you face personally, YOU have GOT to deal with your struggle to maintain and nurture... Read more

Though we have the promise that as His sheep we hear his voice, too many believers are starved for that intimate relationship that alone can satisfy the desire of their hearts. Many people who have read my blogs ask me how I can be so sure what I am hearing is really Him. Do I just make it up in my head? I get the looks. You know the ones; the small smirk because they really think you are... Read more

When my five-year-old gets the flu, he gets beyond miserable! He makes you want to cry, just from looking at him. He says he would do anything to feel better. Anything but take medicine, apparently. Because, at this point, any reasonable human being would take their medicine and enjoy the relief that God has blessed us with through modern medicine. But my son is simply not reasonable. “Wait! Does this medicine taste like the world’s finest candy?” “No. It’s going to... Read more

I am also totally and completely devoted to following Jesus Christ. Nothing in my life comes close to my dedication to Jesus. I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, IN and I lived and worked in Washington D.C. for the last 25 years. Now, I knew what I wanted to do with... Read more

Okay, so I kept seeing references to the new Starbucks Christmas cup on my newsfeed and how it made some Christians mad. I ignored the posts because I couldn’t help thinking: “Great. What did we do now?” I eventually got sick of seeing the reports because I didn’t understand how my Tall, Nonfat, 180 Degree, Extra Whip, No Foam Peppermint Hot Chocolate could have offended Christians and caused them to speak out for Jesus. A quick skim of an... Read more
