Packers and a Presidential Debate: Live Blog

Packers and a Presidential Debate: Live Blog 2016-10-10T07:50:57-04:00

Tonight I face an existential dilemma: the Packers are on opposite a Presidential debate. Sadly, this debate is meaningful since the Republican nominee has lost more Party support than any Republican since 1912.

In other news, the Packers are under pressure to win, since the Vikings won today. Normal live blog rules apply. There is no editing . . . and the game is more unpredictable than the outcome of the debate.

These two things are 20141228_215131320_iOS_optnot equally important, but we must pay attention to politics in any case.

I am pulling for Bart Starr running for President. We could use a gentleman just now.

Aaron Rodgers has not been his usual self, neither has Paul Ryan, but that is somewhat different. Rodgers and the Packers start off strong . . . showing God still has a plan for America or something.

The Football Giants have not been the same since the baseball Giants left and Frank Gifford retired.

Rodgers escapes a sack and makes a first down. Both candidates should note: running into the opposition is bad. The Packers score and so there is a theodicy. However bad the debate, the Packers are winning.

Two old white guys (my age I am sure) are now discussing civility right before they introduce both candidates. One can but laugh.

My niece just suggested I run for President. I shan’t, but that she and her brother would vote for me is encouraging.

It is interesting. I am in a room that wants to watch the game, but also the debate. I am watching both, but they are only watching the game expecting me to tell them if “stuff” is happening. For the first time in America history, politics are more lewd and violent than the NFL.

The Packers score again. Is the world a good place? Of course it is.

And now the first question.

And so HRC tells us that she is a Miracle on K-Street.

HRC is corrupt, but she gets to “come together.”

Trump appears to be on Prozac. Slowly talking his way through talking points.

Is it ok to “sexually assault women?”

Evidently, it is ok to deny what you said. He is now saying: ISIS is worse than I am.

Clinton is destroying Trump. She is giving the life story of Trump.

Alexis de Tocqueville now belongs to the Democrats.

Trump attacks Clinton for laughing at rape. We have now gone nuclear. He accuses Clinton of “impeachment” and of abusing women. There is applause.

“When they go low, you go high. . . ” Clinton just destroyed Trump. HRC is now attacking on his weak points. This is devastating.

Trump goes full Fox and accuses HRC of starting birther lie. This has now gone ugly.

Clinton admits her email server was bad.

The Giants kick a field goal. This is not good.

Trump has been exposed and is now scowling as HRC calmly lays out her case. This is infuriating as if the Packers had gone into a prevent defense in the first quarter. Trump is defending self and no longer playing to win.

Trump accuses HRC of lying. He has gone flat out far right. If GOP wanted someone to take on HRC all out with all the stuff on the right, true and false, Trump is bringing it. Does this help with independents?

No.

The Packers score. That is good. This debate is bad. Trump is ill informed and angry. HRC is smooth and calm. She knows she is winning.

DJT is allowing Clinton to be the compassionate wonk while he is the angry boss who fires us all.

Trump speaks in generalities. And it is shameful . . .

Trump word salads about insurance, somewhere in there is an idea I think is true, but not easy to find. Trump knows nothing and means to go on knowing nothing. This is humiliating for a Republican, like watching the worst student in class elevated to debate the most wicked, but smartest student in class.

Trump says “she will not say the name.”

HRC moves toward people and is warm. She is not defensive, but open.

Satan’s candy . . . making evil look reasonable.

This HRC I could vote for. It is not the HRC of reality, but in this debate she is utterly calm, moderate, and good. She is destroying Trump.

“A religious test . . . ”

Trump says Captain Khan is an American hero. He attacks Clinton on the Iraq War.

Is the Muslim ban still his policy?

He will not answer. He has become a politician, just a bad one. That is the worst of all possible worlds. Don’t be candid, but be bad at being not candid.

If I knew nothing but this debate, I would vote for HRC. She faces a Know Nothing. He has no detail, one word salad after another.

HRC is now talking about children suffering and attacking Russia. I do not agree with this. I know that Syria bleeds and that Obama has been part of the problem by personal knowledge, but Donald has blown it. HRC is now arguing for religious freedom.

DJT is the man whom fame outran and so the name died before the man.

DJT says: we have many criminal illegal aliens. DJT gives a shout out to the Bernie folk as if they are waiting to vote for him.

“She has judgment so bad, she should never be President of the United States. . . ”

HRC is asked about “public and private positions” . . .

HRC schools the question. She notes that she was referring to Lincoln. My God. HRC is on her A game.

She is now taking on Russia. When I was a boy, the GOP was against Russia and for the USA . . . and now I am in the Party that loves Putin and tells lies.

Trump gives an anti-Semite whistle . . . as he quotes Goldman Sachs as the bad bank.

Trump says he has “no loans with Russia.”

Trump is doing well here. He claims he pays hundreds of millions in taxes.

Trump does well on taxes. He plays the “I did what I did” and then pivots.to attack HRC. This is the Trump many voted for . . . the man who was an insider and then turned to tell the “truth.” He is rolling now.

HRC must turn the debate or risk letting DJT off the ropes. DJT is now rolling.

HRC toasts him as “not paying taxes.” HRC says DJT will take care of DJT and people like DJT.

HRC is now becoming reasonable. She is not right, but she sounds right.

And now the man who has the right positon makes bad arguments for the right position and the person with the wrong position argues well. Guess how that will go.

HRC is destroying Trump, but the Packers are beating the Giants. That is the balance of space and time.

We are now to Syria. This is my family and I can hardly stand this discussion. The USA has done nothing good. We are a bipartisan failure.

HRC: do you care if Christians die?

HRC: I promise that the “rebels” want to kill all my family. Do you care?

I hate this election. I hate it with all my heart, soul, and mind.

I know for a fact that Putin is keeping Christians alive. I hate Putin, he is keeping my family alive. So stop HRC, stop thinking letting all the Christians die is fine.

Trump does well here. I know he is right. HRC is in favor of arming people who will kill every religious minority in Syria.

God, help your people. Trump is right here.

Trump is now on a roll on the Iran deal. Trump is right on Syria.

The “moderator” now acts as a HRC surrogate. Trump disagrees with Pence.

This is all good. This Trump could have gotten a vote. Sad.

The moderator is now being an advocate. Trump is now winning this debate, because he shows detail and knowledge. The moderator is now attacking “tell me what your strategy is” . . .

HRC talks now.

Meanwhile, the Packers are at peace because we are winning this game. We are wearing down a weaker Giants team still missing Frank Gifford.

The Packers’ defense is making Eli look bad, just as detail is making Trump look bad.

People that ask these questions are often . . . idiots.

And now Trump is on point: “talking and doing nothing.”

Trump: “what do you have to lose” . . . Clinton will do nothing, but now Trump falls into a word salad.

And HRC . . . kills him.

And now HRC lies about her thirty years where she became a multi-millionaire.

“My argument is not with his supporters . . . ”  This is masterful. She is killing him here.

DJT says HRC has “hate in her heart.” This is strong.

Moderators are with HRC. They are so biased that it is enough to make a person pity DJT. Trump goes after Sydney.

Twitter is defended.

HRC toasts DJT like a marshmallow at a scout camp.

HRC shouts out Bush and Obama.

I officially like football better than politics. Vince Lombardi would cut both candidates.

And now we get the Supreme Court:

HRC . . . “real life experience” . . . HRC now makes it impossible to  ever vote for her as she attacks the rights of the most vulnerable in our community.

HRC makes up stuff about the Senate. Idea: if elected, never approve her nominees.

DJT: stuff said. Some of the stuff he said makes sense. He has “picked” judges.  Can someone ask him to name one?

I am with the words here, but not the man.

Manning gets a big first down: the problem of evil is real.

DJT kills it: he points out that HRC has gotten rich in her “public service.” Well done.

HRC speaks nonsense about guns and so proves that she will pander to ignorance to beat the Know Nothing.

Trump argues for coal. My West Virginian heart rejoices. Go Trump go! (What am I saying? I am saying what I am feeling.) Trump goes for the gut, HRC for the mind. What do you want? A man of the erotic or a woman of the mind?

Sigh.

HRC kills DJT again with facts. Facts are stubborn things. And now my mind says HRC is right . . . DJT said stuff. . . and so I am sad. God help me. My beloved home, West Virginia, needs coal, but . . . facts.

I don’t like HRC historically, but this HRC is likeable and sane and good. Why not vote for her? She is being what a winner is.

And now the dumbest question ever: “what do you respect in another . . . ”

HRC respects his children.

Help me, Lord, but I love this HRC. That is the truth. She is finally human, relaxed, and smart. I do NOT agree with her, but she is NORMAL.

Meanwhile, the Giants like Trump just hang around.

Fact: if I had to choose between just two (and I do not) I vote HRC.

This was the debate from Hell where the right was defended by the wrong and the wrong was defended by the right.

This debate is a sign of trouble for the Republic: HRC is qualified and calm, DJT is right on issues (often) and erratic. There is no good choice here.

On the other hand, the Packers are beating the Giants so there is hope that good can win.

Eli: underrated.

And so the Packers are winning and Trump was destroyed (on the whole), but he did well enough to linger to the fourth quarter. It is a pity.
