Living in Your Magic

Living in Your Magic June 26, 2023

We talk a lot about our magical practices, but less on the aspects of living in your practices. Some of you reading this are probably asking – “What does that even mean?” This is what I want to dive into. What it looks like to move from a space of practice to living it and how to infuse your daily mundane activities with your own magical flare!

What is the “Goal” of Witchcraft?

We all know how learning works. Gathering information and knowledge from various sources. Then we experiment with the concepts, blending our own thoughts and ideas into them. There is failure and success, adjustments and trying again, finding what produces results and what works for us – gaining wisdom through the process. Finally we use all that information to accomplish the task we set out to do.

Witchcraft/ Magical Practice is no different. The goal at the end though is much broader than accomplishing a task – this has to do with improving our life. If we think about it, that is the true goal of a practitioner, to improve and enhance life. Both our personal life, and the world around us, because that world affects our life.

This looks different for all of us, so how we use our magic and what we use it for can look very different. The boundaries we set, the personal ethics we adhere to, and the magic itself are all aspects that are personal to us. The goal though seems pretty universal.

What does Living in our Magic Mean?

Put simply, it where there is no separation between the mundane and magical. No more veil that separates the two sides of yourself. You have taken your magic from a place of learning to a place of embodiment. You see all the magical aspects connected to the mundane tasks, and use those connections to your advantage.

I know that sounds a little deep so let us look at it through a more simplistic lens – The Hearth – Our Home. Hopefully by seeing how this can apply there, you can see how it can be applied to every aspect of your life.

From Mundane to Magical – Let Your Home become a Living Ally

No matter what your “home” looks like, a house – an apartment – a room – a car, it is where we tend to spend a lot of time. It houses our possessions, protects us from the elements, where we sleep, and for some, an expression of who they are.

It can be so much more though! We can take it to a whole new level and allow it to become a Living Ally!

As we are people of magic, and our home is a place of magic. It holds the energies we infuse into it, and it resonates the magic we do within it. With this in mind, I wanted to share some ways we can use that premise to enhance our lives, as well as, our homes. A different way to look at the mundane tasks we have to do, and channel them into the things that will catapult us to where we want to be. Reaping all the benefits of the magic we are creating.

Cleaning – The never ending task

Cleaning is a mundane task that we have to do in some form everyday. It is also a task we are generally performing often in our magical practices. It doesn’t matter how well you are warded, energy becomes stagnant over time, and stagnant energy sours. So instead of constantly thinking about the two as separate things – combine them!

Sweeping out

I have kids and pets, so the idea of sprinkling salt all over the floors, letting it sit, and then sweeping it away doesn’t work for me. I also come from a long line of frugal women, so waste is something I am super conscious of. So instead, I choose to imbue all my cleaning tools with the magic I also want them to accomplish.

My mop, bucket, broom, vacuum, dust pan, and trash cans all have different magic infused into them through sigils and bind runes. That way, whenever they are being used for mundane cleaning tasks, they are also completing magical tasks for me. I also suggest on the container aspects (trash cans and the part that collects dirt in your vacuum) to bind it with a sealing charm or sigil. That way whatever it is holding, it keeps it in until you dispose of it! These are a really simple, yet effective way to live in your magic.

It also doesn’t have to be sigils or bind runes, those are just heavily used in my practice. I know others who use blessings and oils. Get creative and see what works best for you and your style of magic. I would recommend charging them up every so often, as over time living magic can fade if not fed.

The never ending Laundry

Clothing is something I didn’t really used to think about in a magical sense, but we wear them everywhere. They come in contact with all kinds of energy, and fibers have a tendency to absorb more than just odors and dirt. This is another great opportunity to bring what we practice into a space of daily living!

I know some who will put a dab of magical oil or water in with the wash for the purpose of cleansing and protecting. I’m the symbol chic though, so I will write sigils and runes on the laundry soap container, as well as, the outside of the washer and dryer. I don’t want to just clear things out though, I also want to add in a little attraction. When my family goes out into the world I also want them to attract prosperity, joy, and heightened senses, so I add those aspects in. The washer is great for clearing, but your dryer can be equally fantastic for bringing in/ attracting.

Lemon Juice is your Friend

Lemon Juice is a great way to add wards to your home without seeing them. You can write sigils, runes, or even just words onto windows, door-frames, certain furniture, and so forth. I would suggest diluting it in water (a great time to also think about using some of that moon and sun water depending on your goal), as straight lemon juice is very acidic. It is not only a great way to add wards, but lemons themselves bring in a sweeping freshness and dissolves stale and negative energy.

Don’t just clear out – Bring in!

Cleansing is for clearing out and renewing, but you should also think about going the extra step to bring in the things you want too. This is a good time to consider what you want to bring into your home and your life. What aspect do you want more of?

Just as you cleared, you can also bring in the energies you want or need. Prosperity, love, laughter, contentment, or whatever it is you personally need more of in your life.

DIY Oils and Waters

Magical oils and waters can be a good start. They are super easy to make, last quite awhile, while staying hidden from prying eyes. Use them in doorways, on widows, mirrors, appliances, and even yourself.

The mixes will be particular to you, your associations, and practice, but here are a few ideas:

For Wealth/ Prosperity – fill a jar with olive oil. Add in some parsley, cinnamon, basil, and dill.

For Joy/ Happiness – fill a jar with water infused with the afternoon sun. Add in some dandelions/ flowers and clovers.

Self Love – Water that has sat under the moon and sun (24 hrs starting one evening to the next). Add in a scent that makes you feel energized (For me that would be gardenia), cloves, and rosemary. – Great for bedroom/ bathroom mirrors.

Charming Household Items

Charming objects and decorations that are scattered about is another good option. These can include artwork, appliances, figurines, cooking tools, lamps -the possibilities are endless – so get creative!

By charming an object, every time you use it, it will infuse what you are doing with the goal of your magic. I knew a person who charmed a cooking pot so that anyone who ate what was cooked in it, would feel satisfied afterwards. Worked like a charm!

Your Home is a Living Ally

In these examples you are literally making the house itself into a magical object. The more you think in this way, the more your house becomes a living part of your life. Not just a place to sleep and live, but a living magical ally.

Not only are you infusing your magical craft into it, you are also looking at it as a living creation. A creation shaped and forged by your hand. It starts to take on that energy, and becomes more than what it was – Just as you have become more than you were through the process. Not just having a magical craft, but living within your craft.

Ending Thoughts

Although the examples above were very household drive, the concept can be applied to every area of your life. By bringing magic into all the mundane you are also altering your mindset to seeing the magical aspects in all parts of life. It takes conscious effort at first but eventually just becomes who you are, how you see things, and thus changes how we choose to interact with the world.

I have personally found that by living this way, living in your magic instead of it just being something you do or a segregated part of you, you do not experience the “burnout” that many practitioners go through. It also enhances all the aspects of your life, goals, and makes achieving your desires more consistent.

What are ways that you live in your practice?

How to do fuse together your mundane life and magical one?

Did this give you any inspirations or ideas to add?
