“When I sit at your right side, your hand moves and your strength appears. At your right hand, there is youth, beauty, benediction, and the perfume of blessing. There is the dawn of love and the adornment of holiness. Draw me to the presence of your right hand. Embrace me with your left arm, for I have lost my compass. I have forgotten my geography. My enemies have multiplied, and so I need to behold the Lion of Judah sitting... Read more

Believing that there is something more powerful than the empire is an important and necessary step towards questioning it. God questions the omnipotence of empire. As well, seeing God on the other side of the empire queries and challenges the morality of the empire, which is a key link in its weakening. Faith in God becomes a strong factor in mobilizing people against the empire. Whereas armies might not dare to challenge the empire because of the power imbalance, faith n God... Read more

Great article by Zondervan editor Katya Covrett for the Logos Institute for Analytic and Exegetical theology on You Can Be What You Can Read. Publishers play a key role in shaping the future of the academy, if even by the choices we make in what we publish. One often-overlooked but decidedly strategic way to shape the future of the academy is in publishing textbooks that become formative for future generations of academics. Think about it. If my own experience is... Read more

Prof. Craig A. Evans (Houston Baptist University) has teamed up with Jerry B. Jenkins (of Left Behind Fame) to write a series of novels about an intrepid archaeologist Nicole German. Evans says, “She uncovers artifacts from antiquity that not only shed light on the past but throw political and religious issues of the present into a whole new light, but she does this at great peril to herself and those she loves.” I know a few NT scholars who have... Read more

Earlier this year I got to see the musical Hamilton in Chicago, and it was great. It is a great story, great music, great production, touches some political nerves about immigration (nerves that may need to be touched), and it also has some great Christian themes. EVERYONE should listen to the soundtrack, it is so catchy, I love singing it in the car with my daughter on the way to school. Especially “Non-Stop.” There are some great articles about Hamilton... Read more
