Going off the previous point, the media and Hollywood have been falsely labeling conservative candidates as racists, bigots, and xenophobes for years. Bias against evangelicals and their favored candidates has always been astounding. Now that a bigoted racist xenophobe finally comes to the fore, it’s not like the media has positioned itself to be listened to by evangelicals. Today’s cultural guardians no longer have sway with evangelicals, having expended their social capital for the sake of partisanship and convenience. If many evangelicals can’t see the kind of untrustworthy man Trump is, it might be because the media has already falsely cried wolf several times now.
