Dave & I took our two little babuschka’s to see Disney’s Oceans movie. Last year on Earth Day we did the same thing by going to see Disney’s Earth Movie.
It was, of course, profoundly beautiful. Touching. Moving. Brilliant. The creativity of God’s under water creation is amazing. There are parts of this film (like Disney’s Earth film) that are so stunning you can do nothing but sit with your jaw dropped.
It was also was sad, sad, sad. Not for my husband and normal people of the world. I am one of those unfortunate people who will never be able to get over the reality that one animal die has to die so the other can live.
As a mother, there is a fierce instinctual desire to protect your children. When I watch these Mommy animals try to protect their babies to no avail it makes me feel completely hopeless. Also, depressed.
So, unfortunately for me, I cried within the first three minutes of the film and then sat there in thorough anxiety for the rest of it.
It was a delight to see Ransom oooohing and aaaaaahing over the majesty of the great hump-back whale, the bizarre looking shrimp and crabs, the cuteness of the wobbly penguins and the laziness of the sea otter. Dave & I had to laugh when Ransom saw the scene of dolphins racing and bounding across the water to which he replied: “sweet. mother.”
That’s Mama’s boy! 🙂
Great film: A++++
Recommend: Highly
The Kiddo factor: Ransom is 4.5 yrs. old and was slightly afraid and agitated by some of the hunting scenes. I.E. “Where are those birds taking those baby sea turtles?” Other than that he said he liked the movie but commented that it was a “little boring.” I wouldn’t take a 3 year old if I were you.
Happy Earth Day! 🙂
