Nike Likes BIG Butts & They Cannot Lie…

In 2005, Nike released this ad of a black woman’s backside, which is now being replaced with this ad of a racially ambiguous woman (who looks Latino to me) with a much smaller buttox…

Nike is coming out with a new butt-enhancing gym shoe.

The question is with the likes of one Kim Kardashian & Beyonce is having a big butt now in vogue?  Or did Sir Mix A Lot’s declaration of liking “big butts” take care of that long ago?

I know for a fact that I would LOVE to wear these shoes.  Walk in a shoe that “enhances” my butt?  Um, okay, no-brainer! 🙂

When I saw the ads though, my first question was: are these ads were in any way degrading to women?

What do you think?

I’m happy to embrace all body types and my sisters with big, beautiful round bottoms should be celebrated.  In that way, I love these ads.  Yet, there is something about the top ad that seems less like a celebration of all body types and more like a degradation.

Am I overthinking it?
