The Social Network – Movie Review

The Social Network – Movie Review

watch-the-social-network-online There was only one reason my husband was able to convince me to see a movie about facebook (what on earth?!?!):  Rotten Tomatoes.com gave it a staggering 97% on the tomatometer!

I went & saw that movie with a chip on my shoulder like I’m not a complete facebook slut and don’t really care how it began or who Mark Zuckerberg is.

Let it be known: I was wrong.  Which, I know is such a big shock, since I am hardly ever incorrect on anything in the known world.

The Social Network was flipping fantastic!  It was so interesting and complex with engaging in-depth characters that at times you rooted for and at times you wanted to see burn.

This isn’t an easy thing for a movie to pull off: making me want to love and hate Mark’s girlfriend, making me want to kick Mark and then hug him, making me want to slap his enemies and then feel sorry for them.

Written by Aaron Sorkin (which is sort of my hero for writing West Wing & Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), perfectly cast with extremely talented actors and Directed by David Fincher (of Fight Club & The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) it was a TRIPLE whammy movie with all the fixin’s.

It was so entertaining and engaging I was surprised and saddened when it ended abruptly —I wanted more!

So, it’s not just about “how facebook was created,” it’s about what happens to four kids  –KIDS– who embark upon a journey that flings them into wild success and raging riches while trying to navigate being pimple-faced, teen-aged college students trying to figure out what it means to have real relationships, integrity & identity.  And all of that without a plan to become BILLIONAIRES but a plan to start something cool that took off like like a fighter jet.  And top of all of that trying to figure out what it was that they were making, what all the possibilities were and who they could trust.

In 18 months.  All of that, in 18 months.

At 26, Mark Zuckerberg (estimated worth at $25 Billion) is now the youngest billionaire in the world -or ever- with his co-founder not far behind at an estimated worth of $5 Billion & his enemies received a $65 million settlement in court.

What does rags-to-riches produce??? Drama.  Drama.  Drama.

Makes for a GREAT movie!

Fascinating!

Go See it!!!!

Grade: A+++++
