Natural Hair Journey: Day 1

Natural Hair Journey: Day 1

Another year means one thing, peeps: time for another do!

Truth is, y’all I’m bored silly with my hair.

Last year, I really wanted the Rihanna mohawk…

…when she grew it out, I did too, albeit about a year behind her…

…nowadays, my hair looks something like this…

…on a good day, this…

…but MOST days this…

So.  The plan.

Go red AND go natural.

First, I got my supplies ready…

After, dying my hair red, I deep conditioned, bust out the old heating cap and did an oil treatment.  I ended up using Motions leave-in conditioner, Luster’s pink oil moisturizer & Kinky Curly curly custard while I twisted & rolled it up.

The next morning, I took out the rollers and let the twists fully dry….

…When I started un-twisting they were thoroughly dried and ready to go…

…After un-twisting it looked like this…

…I ended up pinning it up, because the look was a BIT too wild for even me…

…(The shot below is in natural light outside on my sun porch.  It’s not quite as orange-ish as it seems above)…

…I was feeling JUST OKAY about the look, but by the end of the day, it looked like this crazy hot mess…

I really do want to go natural, but I have to find something as an alternative until the short sides and back grow out.

I’m so frustrated with myself for cutting the sides/back again last month on a whim.  Oh well.

So.  The next day, I’m back to my wig-a-wearin’ and making plans for the next do!

Any ideas for moi?

I’m thinking of either getting braids or twists while I wait or just cutting the length completely off the top and starting over again.  In the natural hair community, it’s called “the big chop.”  I big chopped it in 2010, so I’m willing to go there if I must!

What fun styles have y’all been admiring lately?

Any big hair changes on the horizon for 2012???
