to let an actual PROFESSIONAL have his way with my head. (I love it)! (I feel like a rock star) (Without any musical talent to speak of) (or money) (or…) point is: It’s edgy & different. I like it. p.s. my inspiration? Read more

There was only one reason my husband was able to convince me to see a movie about facebook (what on earth?!?!):  Rotten Tomatoes.com gave it a staggering 97% on the tomatometer! I went & saw that movie with a chip on my shoulder like I’m not a complete facebook slut and don’t really care how it began or who Mark Zuckerberg is. Let it be known: I was wrong.  Which, I know is such a big shock, since I am... Read more

I believe I can fly I believe I can touch the sky I think about it every night and day I spread my wings and fly away I believe I can soar I see me running through that open door I believe I can fly I believe I can fly I can fly! I can fly! …If I can see it, then I can do it… …If I just believe it, there’s nothing to it… Read more

…except that I’m not capable of shutting-up. (But I love the idea -in theory- of being able to “write” a post every Wednesday that doesn’t necessarily require words). Today’s (hypothetical) wordless Wednesday post is brought to you courtesy of a debate my good friend, April & I are having over on a post I wrote a few days ago about how a slam poetry / spoken word group inspired me to think about sex, prostitution, suburban America and other light-hearted... Read more

The other day I found an old post that made my blood boil all over again.  Worth a repost!  🙂 “Today, I almost had to wrestle a man to the ground. Here’s the story… Ran & I stopped in what could be termed, “the hood” to go to McDonald’s on our way to Detroit yesterday. This Mickey D’s is right across the street from the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission and literally sharing a parking lot for a homeless rehabilitation center. Needless... Read more

Dave & I saw these dudes perform today.  They are Gabe & Kirk of Kinetic Affect, masters of spoken word / slam poetry. They were some kind of amazing.  Super deep.  Awesome.  Engaging, raw, challenging & over-the-top talented. I was affected. What struck me about their pieces was how real-life it was.  They spoke of their fathers’ abandonment, divorce, suicide, cancer and more. In poetry! In spoken word. In unison! (sometimes) In other words, they went there. They took me... Read more

Just like the next human being, sometimes I think life is completely crappy, not worth it and seriously over-rated. (I mean, c’mon God?  You could not. be. serious with this whole life-is-great thing) One of those times happened to be in the last two weeks. (and then a few months before that… and a few months before that as well). To sum it up, in a lot of ways this whole year has kind of sucked.  Not in the I’m-unhappy-with-my-life-or-my-circumstances... Read more

…this weekend at our house… Me: Ransom, please don’t stab your brother right now… (using a small Peter Pan “sword”) Ran: Well, can I please stab him later? The next day… Ran: Mama, Rhys is sucking on me & Little Jerri (the cat) is biting my toes!  Why is everyone always sucking and biting me? Me: Rhys, don’t suck your brother. Ran to Rhys: If you ever suck me again, I am going to suck your face right off!!! Me:... Read more
