5 Powerful Hymns About Stewardship

5 Powerful Hymns About Stewardship December 3, 2010

Aah, yes, the old Hymns of Glorious Praise. You know, the brown book on the back of the pew at church that you use for something hard to doodle…eerr…take notes on. The hymns inside are filled with Christian doctrine that is fundamental to what we believe and the truths found in the songs written in the 1800s are still applicable today.

Here are some excerpts from five hymns that I feel share a message that we can apply to grow as better stewards of the resources God has blessed us with.

Be Thou My Vision

Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,

Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:

Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

Give of Your Best to the Master

Give of your best to the Master;

Give Him first place in your heart.

Give Him first place in your service;

Consecrate every part.

Give, and to you will be given;

God His beloved Son gave.

Gratefully seeking to serve Him,

Give Him the best that you have.

Take My Life and Let It Be

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love.

Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King.

Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold.

Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine.

Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store.

Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee

Lord, Thou Lov’st The Cheerful Giver

Lord, Thou lov’st the cheerful giver,

Who with open heart and hand

Blesses freely, as a river

That refreshes all the land.

Grant us then the grace of giving

With a spirit large and free,

That our life and all our living

We may consecrate to Thee.

Jesus Paid It All

And when before the throne

I stand in Him complete,

I’ll lay my trophies down,

All down at Jesus’ feet.

Jesus paid it all,

All to Him I owe;

Sin had left a crimson stain,

He washed it white as snow.

I hope you’re reminded of the blessings we have in Christ and how the message of God, through His Word and through hymns like these, can direct us even in areas like finances and our work.
