Last Days in the Desert, a new film by writer/director Rodrigo Garcia and starring Ewan McGregor, is an evocative meditation on the humanness of Jesus. Premiering in select cities May 13, the movie follows Jesus in an imagined chapter from his forty days of fasting and praying in the desert. On his way out of the wilderness, he struggles with the Devil, also played by McGregor, over the fate of an ordinary family in crisis, setting for himself a dramatic test with distinctly human conflicts.
The film, which made its debut at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, also stars renowned actors Tye Sheridan, Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer. It’s a quiet, mesmerizing movie; and leaps and bounds away from the standard Christian fare about the life of Jesus. Last Days is much less about pushing a gospel message and much more about telling a very human story about fathers and sons.
Tomorrow, we’ll share an interview with McGregor and Garcia here on the blog. Today, we’ve got an exclusive clip from the movie, below. You can watch more clips and a trailer from the movie at the Patheos Movie Club here!
