I don’t know about you, but I usually have low expectations for Christian fiction, or anything resembling it. Maybe the Left Behind series permanently lowered my hopes that Christians could write engaging, culturally relevant fiction without sounding, well — in a word — nuts. So it was with some reluctance that I picked up The War Against God, a novel by David Kullberg, recently published by Andershire Books in 2012. But I’m glad I did. Not only did I discover that Christians can creatively address political... Read more

Our kids have never been good at following the crowd or “sheepwalking” as Seth Godin calls it. Or following the signs at local parks that read: “Stay on Prepared Trails” When I was a kid at the same parks, there were no signs. There were barely paths. The whole point of going was to get off the trail. Explore a mysterious cave. Jump across a tricky precipice. Race up the side of a cliff that was likely to cause a bruise... Read more

I know. We’ve just about had it with the whole fiscal cliff fiasco. Maybe that’s why most of us want the words “fiscal cliff” banned from the English language. We should be frustrated with our national leaders. In the words of my own Congressman LaTourette: “This is disgusting, and everybody involved should be embarrassed,” said Rep. Steve LaTourette (R-Ohio), marching glumly from a GOP conference meeting in the House Monday evening. “It’s not even small ball — it’s a pingpong... Read more

I admit it. Sometimes, perhaps many times, I don’t like to pray. I’ve been a follower of Christ for over 35 years — as far back as my memory will take me. I know what the Bible says about the unimaginable power of prayer. And I believe it. I just don’t like to pray. There, I said it. I know some of you are rushing to click off this post before you catch whatever my spiritual illness may be. But maybe... Read more

I won’t dignify the antics of the Westboro Baptist Church group by linking to their despicable escapades. We got to experience their virulent brand of theology first-hand here in Chardon after the shooting that took place in February of 2012. Now an on-line petition has begun at WhiteHouse.gov to petition the Obama Administration to legally recognize the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. It has over 290,000 signatures at the moment. And I’ve been encountering requests from other sincere Christians... Read more
