Canadian box-office stats — April 10

Canadian box-office stats — April 10 April 11, 2005

Here are the figures for the past weekend, arranged from those that owe the highest percentage of their take to the Canadian box office to those that owe the lowest.

Hostage — CDN $4,693,762 — N.AM $32,219,000 — 14.6%
Sin City — CDN $5,687,893 — N.AM $50,723,000 — 11.2%

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous — CDN $3,338,357 — N.AM $37,473,000 — 8.9%
Robots — CDN $9,358,431 — N.AM $111,038,000 — 8.4%
Guess Who — CDN $4,202,314 — N.AM $51,103,000 — 8.2%
Sahara — CDN $1,508,844 — N.AM $18,500,000 — 8.2%
The Ring Two — CDN $5,642,467 — N.AM $72,312,000 — 7.8%
The Pacifier — CDN $7,687,929 — N.AM $100,482,000 — 7.7%
The Upside of Anger — CDN $836,194 — N.AM $12,356,000 — 6.8%
Fever Pitch — CDN $617,731 — N.AM $13,000,000 — 4.8%

A couple of discrepancies: Hostage was #8 on the Canadian chart (it was #13 in North America as a whole), while Beauty Shop was #5 on the North American chart. FWIW, if I had to guess why Hostage is so popular in Canada, I would say it probably has something to do with the fact that the director is French and, as one critic noted, the film is styled like a policier.
