Canadian box-office stats — May 15 May 16, 2005

Here are the figures for the past weekend, arranged from those that owe the highest percentage of their take to the Canadian box office to those that owe the lowest.

Kingdom of Heaven — CDN $3,854,197 — N.AM $35,097,000 — 11.0%
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — CDN $4,549,964 — N.AM $43,255,000 — 10.5%
The Interpreter — CDN $6,366,661 — N.AM $60,954,000 — 10.4%
Sahara — CDN $6,234,115 — N.AM $64,457,000 — 9.7%
The Amityville Horror — CDN $5,683,720 — N.AM $63,060,000 — 9.0%
Unleashed — CDN $921,234 — N.AM $10,587,000 — 8.7%

House of Wax — CDN $1,871,199 — N.AM $21,653,000 — 8.6%
Crash — CDN $1,557,811 — N.AM $19,793,000 — 7.9%
Kicking & Screaming — CDN $1,444,358 — N.AM $20,851,000 — 6.9%
Monster-in-Law — CDN $1,436,776 — N.AM $24,025,000 — 6.0%

A couple of discrepancies: The Amityville Horror and Sahara were #9 and #10 on the Canadian chart, respectively (they were #12 and #11 in North America as a whole), while XXX: State of the Union and Mindhunters were #9 and #10 on the North American chart, respectively.

In addition, Million Dollar Baby has now grossed just a little more than $100 million, as of this weekend, and is thus the 24th and presumably final film released in 2004 to do so. Last year thus ties the earlier record set in 2002, but falls considerably short of the current record of 29 such films set in 2003.
