Just one last bit of horn-tooting

Just one last bit of horn-tooting

Last month, I mentioned that my film reviews for BC Christian News had placed fourth in the Evangelical Press Association award for ‘Standing Column’. Along the way, I mentioned a handful of other third-place and honourable-mention awards that I’ve received over the past several years, and I quipped that it felt a little like being “always a bridesmaid, never a bride.”

Today, I became a bride, albeit at a double-wedding. I went to an editorial meeting at BCCN this morning and discovered that our paper had won something like seven different awards from the Canadian Church Press last week, one of which was my first-place award in what I gather is a new category, ‘Media Review – Newspaper’. It was actually a tie between me and someone from the Anglican Journal, I believe, but hey, I’m not complaining.

FWIW, the specific reviews cited in the award, possibly because these may have been the only specific items entered by my editor, were: ‘Rings saga ends with triumph, loss and mercy‘ (Jan 2004); ‘Prisoner of Azkaban a darker, bolder Potter‘ (Jul 2004); and ‘Spiritual questions lurk in Film Fest offerings‘ (Oct 2004).
