Could have been a good marketing hook!

Why am I only finding out now that Jennifer Carpenter, who plays the titular possession victim in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is the daughter of horror-movie auteur John Carpenter? FilmStew.com says Jennifer is “eager to downplay her showbiz roots,” and so far she’s succeeded — there is, as of this moment, no reference to this family connection on her IMDB page, for example. Bizarre.

SEP 21 UPDATE: I have just received word from Scott Derrickson that Jennifer Carpenter is not, in fact, the daughter of John Carpenter. I was beginning to wonder, since the IMDB not only says nothing about Jennifer’s parents, it also says nothing about John’s children beyond his son Cody. What an odd slip-up.
