Blessings (and thanks) for everything

Blessings (and thanks) for everything November 27, 2005

So today I get into a car with a monk and one of our priests, and the monk sees the priest’s copy of The Great Book of Needs. In this book, there is the text for a short service that the priest will perform when he serves communion to my wife in the hospital.

The monk pages through the book and remarks that there are lots of blessings in it. The priest replies that there are blessings for practically everything in the book.

“Is there a blessing for a sewing machine?” I ask.

“There is a blessing for everything,” the priest replies, knowingly.

Ah, ya gotta love going to a church full of movie buffs. Especially when the movie in question is your favorite musical of all time.

And BTW, thanks to everyone who has prayed for my wife, our as-yet-unborn twins, and me during the past four weeks. It has been humbling and encouraging to realize just how many of you are out there. In just a couple days, we’ll hit the 24-week mark and we’ll be able to breathe, not quite easy, but a bit easier.
