Oscar’s Best Animated Feature — the long list

The Academy has issued a list of the ten films that are eligible to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature award. Only three will be nominated. And of course, only one will win. The list:

Chicken Little
Gulliver’s Travel
Hoodwinked
Howl’s Moving Castle
Madagascar
Robots
(my comments)
Steamboy (my comments)
Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride
Valiant
(my review)
Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (my review)

FWIW, I have seen all these films except for Hoodwinked, which opens December 23, and Gulliver’s Travel, which doesn’t even seem to be listed at the IMDB yet. And while none of these films is exactly perfect, right now I am inclined to prefer Corpse Bride; I was more impressed than I expected to be by its portrait of marriage, and I was more miffed than I expected to be by the DreamWorksification of Wallace & Gromit. However, I would have to see both films a second time before I could say for sure.
