Catching up on The Nativity Story!

Catching up on The Nativity Story! June 24, 2006

My friend and fellow Bible-movie nut Matt Page is blogging again, now that he’s taken some time off to welcome his newborn daughter into the world — hello, Nina! — and one of his first posts is this round-up of items relating to the upcoming film The Nativity Story.

Among other things, Matt links to this blog devoted to The Nativity Story — and it, in turn, links to recent items on the film that have appeared in Time magazine, the Catholic News Service and elsewhere.

But the biggest new bit of news, to me — and apparently it has been out there for a month already — is that the angel Gabriel is being played by the half-British, half-Sudanese Alexander Siddig (AKA Siddig El Fadil) of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame. No doubt Siddig’s take on the character will be a wee bit more orthodox than the Gabriels played in recent films by Christopher Walken (The Prophecy, 1995-2000) and Tilda Swinton (Constantine, 2004)!

Side note: Siddig’s uncle, Malcolm McDowell, also played the angel Gabriel in The Second Greatest Story Ever Told (1994).
