Barbara Nicolosi fears Facing the Giants — and has some pretty compelling reasons why you, too, should fear its influence.
On a related note, it might be interesting to compare this film’s box-office performance — and thus its potential influence on the Christian movie biz — with that of One Night with the King.
The latter film seems to be following the typical movie trajectory — have a big(-ish) opening weekend, then progressively smaller weekends as the theatrical release runs its course — while Giants, a “cheapie” “fantasy” (as Nicolosi puts it), has shown considerable staying power and is reportedly going to expand this week.
One Night with the King reportedly cost $20 million to make, has earned $8.3 million after two weeks, and will be lucky to earn much more than half of its production budget. Facing the Giants cost $100,000 to make, has earned $5.2 million after four weeks, and keeps chugging along. Which of these two products will the studios — major secular or indie Christian — try to emulate?
