Just a few current quickies.

1. What’s that? At two and a half hours, The Da Vinci Code wasn’t boring enough for you? Then get ready for the three-hour version, via a two-disc “uncut collector’s edition” that Variety says will come out on DVD in France before it comes to North America.

2. Penguins have officially jumped the shark. Variety reports that Bob Saget’s Farce of the Penguins, an R-rated spoof of the Oscar-winning documentary March of the Penguins (2005), is now going to straight to DVD in January, where it will fall behind the theatrical release of Happy Feet but ahead of Surf’s Up.

3. Jeffrey Wells says there is a good chance that Becket (1964), one of two films starring Peter O’Toole as Henry II, may finally come out on DVD in a year or two, after a limited theatrical revival.

4. Superman Returns finally grossed $200 million domestic, as of two weekends ago, so now, Variety reports, the studio has given the go-ahead for director Bryan Singer to make a sequel.
