I have never read Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising, though a friend of mine did give me a copy of one of the other books in that series some years ago. I now find myself wondering if there is anything vaguely or remotely religious about the series. Why? Because Variety reports that a film version is now being produced by Walden Media — the outfit behind Amazing Grace and the Narnia movies — and the director they’ve hired, after checking with at least one other Christian filmmaker that I know of, is David L. Cunningham, whose father Loren founded Youth with a Mission, and whose credits include To End All Wars (2001), Little House on the Prairie (2005), The Path to 9/11 (2006) and After… (2006), the last of which he wrote with Hollywood Jesus and Joy of Movies scribe Kevin Miller.
