Even more movies that don’t need critics.

Even more movies that don’t need critics. April 18, 2007

Lou Lumenick at the New York Post reminds us that two movies that went into wide-ish release last week — Redline and Slow Burn, both of which opened on over 1,100 screens — were not screened in advance for critics. If I neglected to mention those here, it is probably because neither film made the North American top ten, and neither film was released in Canada. In fact, there was going to be a press screening for Slow Burn in Vancouver, at least, but it was cancelled when the film’s release was cancelled here.

Lumenick also reports that April 27 will mark a milestone of sorts for the snubbing of critics, since no less than three new films will open that day without any advance screenings. I have already mentioned The Invisible, an American remake of a Swedish high school supernatural murder mystery, or something like that. The others are Wind Chill — which, like a lot of films that don’t get shown to critics these days, is a supernatural thriller produced by Screen Gems — and Kickin’ It Old Skool, starring Jamie Kennedy as a breakdancer who has been in a coma for the past 20 years.
