Trailerbites: Watchmen! Earth! Angels! Trek! Harry! Dollhouse!

Trailerbites: Watchmen! Earth! Angels! Trek! Harry! Dollhouse! November 16, 2008

The holiday season is upon us, and so, too, are the trailers alerting us to next year’s wanna-be blockbusters (and hit TV shows).

1. I showed a clip from Koyaanisqatsi (1983) during one of my presentations at M.E.I. last week, and afterwards a student asked me how he could track a copy down. The next morning, I discovered this new trailer for Watchmen — and lo and behold, it uses music from Koyaanisqatsi. So I went back and asked this student if he was looking forward to Watchmen, and he said he was, and I had fun telling him about this connection:

I also get a kick out of this marriage of music and movie because I discovered Koyaanisqatsi and bought its soundtrack in the late 1980s, right around the time I began collecting and reading comics in earnest (including Watchmen). So the two things have been associated in my memory for a long, long time.

In related news, MTV Splash Page has posted a couple of arguments for and against the revised ending of this movie — both of which have their merits — and the Los Angeles Times has the latest story on the ongoing legal issues surrounding this film.

2. Jeffrey Wells has the new, action-packed poster for The Day the Earth Stood Still, and he links to the Windows and QuickTime versions of the new, action-packed trailer for that film:

The studio has also created a social-networking website called EarthVitalList.com, where people can say what they would save first if the Earth were facing imminent destruction.

3. Ron Howard has confirmed that the film version of Angels & Demons will be a sequel, not a prequel, to The Da Vinci Code (2006), despite the fact that the book version of Angels & Demons came first. Here is the new teaser for the new film:

4. The new trailer for the new Star Trek movie:

The official version goes online tomorrow; I’ll post it here if I can.
