The Bible Tour looks back at the History Channel miniseries and ahead to this year’s Ben-Hur remake April 4, 2016

It has been three years since The Bible aired on the History Channel, and the franchise keeps on ticking. Two years ago, to promote the big-screen spin-off Son of God, the producers organized a concert tour that combined footage from the film with live music by Christian musicians — and that tour has become an annual tradition.

This year’s tour — sponsored by the Museum of the Bible and the state of Israel (!) — kicks off in Sacramento this Wednesday, April 6, and will pass through seventeen cities in fourteen states before coming to an end in San Antonio on May 1.

It will feature live performances by Matthew West, Sidewalk Prophets, Aaron Shust, Love & The Outcome and Blanca — and in addition to showing footage from The Bible, it will also feature a sneak peek of the upcoming Ben-Hur remake (which, like The Bible, counts Mark Burnett and Roma Downey among its producers).

The concert dates for this year’s tour are listed on the tour’s official website, and you can also sign up there to enter a contest to win a free trip to the Holy Land.

Here is a trailer for this year’s tour:

And here is a video of Sidewalk Prophets rehearsing with the video footage:

Just a short clip from @bibletour2016 rehearsal today. Dave from @sidewalkprophets singing during the most heart wrenching moment of the night: Jesus on the Via Dolorosa. What powerful evenings these will be. #Jesus #bibletour2016

Incidentally, every tour so far has had a promotional angle: in 2014 it supported the theatrical release of Son of God, in 2015 it featured a sneak peek at A.D. The Bible Continues, and this year it will feature a sneak peek at Ben-Hur. Will there be another Bible-themed project to promote if there’s another tour next year? We shall see.
