Walt Disney Treasures — the end is here?

Ouch. Not only were the cartoons featured in the most recent Walt Disney Treasures sets badly framed, UltimateDisney.com is now reporting that the series may be discontinued altogether.

The evidence for this is an e-mail purportedly written by Leonard Maltin, who has hosted all the installments of this DVD series:

Hi… Thanks so much for your kind words; they’re very much appreciated. I have been told that there will be no more Treasures, and of course I’m disappointed. I have the exact same questions you do about “unfinished business,” and I wish I had answers, but I don’t. Nor have I been told what they plan to do under the Legacy imprint.
That this series exists at all is a minor miracle, and I feel grateful that we had a six-year run with it.
cheers, Leonard Maltin

If this e-mail is genuine, this is a real bummer. Virtually all of the cartoons produced by Disney between the creation of Mickey Mouse in 1928 and the death of Uncle Walt in 1966 have come out in these sets, the one major, major exception being the 60+ cartoons produced after 1947 that star Donald Duck. And I was really, really hoping to complete my Donald Duck collection.
