Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit won’t be out here for another three weeks, but Studio Briefing reports that it’s already been released in Australia — and the critics and audiences love it. Now The Hollywood Reporter offers its own two bits:
Aardman’s first feature for DreamWorks, “Chicken Run” in 2000, didn’t completely manage the trick of maintaining the laughs and stylish glee of its shorts in a film nearly three times their length. The studio now hits its stride in a second outing, displaying the same technical flair, wonderful British wit and a sharper story sense. Since “Curse” is both a family movie and a date movie, DreamWorks should enjoy a long theatrical run followed by a lively ancillary afterlife.
Trivia note: The first DVD I ever owned was a copy of Chicken Run (my review) that my brother gave me for Christmas; I didn’t get my actual DVD player until about a week later. And as one who rather liked Chicken Run — though not as much as the original Wallace & Gromit short films, especially The Wrong Trousers (1992) — I am excited to hear that this film may be even better.
