I realize that “the media” is not a monolith. So I’m using the word generally here. However, I keep seeing the following narrative played out in scores of interviews, commentaries, and pundit discussions across the TV news networks, magazines, and the Internet. So while there are certainly exceptions, I’ve identified nine common lies perpetuated by people in the media. Granted, there are enough vocal evangelicals to bolster each of these stereotypes, so the media isn’t completely responsible. But nuance is necessary... Read more
“Without the Way, there is no going. Without the Truth, there is no knowing. Without the Life, there is no living.” ~ Thomas à Kempis In some recent progressive Christian blogs, the authors often argue that the Bible contradicts itself a great deal. Some of these authors even go as far as to say that the Bible isn’t terribly reliable, and that certain things that God told Israel, for example, were . . . well . . . little fibs. “God... Read more

It was February 1964. Cassius Clay (who would later change his name to Muhammad Ali) was relatively unknown. The Beatles were just becoming known in the United States. Both were about to make history and be called “the greatest.” But that would come later. The Beatles were relaxing in Florida and asked to meet the heavyweight champion of the world, Sonny Liston. Liston had no interest so he declined, calling the four musicians “sissies” and “bums.” The Beatles were then taken to... Read more

Regret . . . it’s a horrible thing. In a moment of stupidity or practical insanity, you do something for which you want to kick yourself, slap yourself, or give yourself an atomic knee drop. You wish it were a bad dream, a nightmare, but it really happened . . . and you can’t do anything about it. When I was in my 20s, the Lord would often speak to me through dreams. Today, only on rare occasion will I... Read more
Failsafe: Living Secure in God’s Acceptance is a new book written by author Kenny Luck. I caught up with Kenny recently to discuss his new book. Enjoy! Frank Viola: What provoked you to write this book? Kenny Luck: Watching the cultural attack on men, “toxic” masculinity, and male strength.Strength is not the issue. The question is: Does a man have inner character, maturity, and security guiding his strength? When he doesn’t, you get 30-year-old 13-year-olds, 40-year-old 14-year-olds, 50-year-old 15-year-olds—men with... Read more
The story of Jesus and the “sinful woman” (as Luke describers her in Luke 7) teaches us five big lessons about self-righteousness: 1. You will never know if self-righteousness lurks in your heart until you see someone you regard as “sinful” audaciously loving Jesus. How you react to that situation will uncover what’s deep within your heart. 2. Self-righteousness will disqualify you from the kingdom of God. Serving God, as Simon performed his entire life, doesn’t score brownie points with... Read more
