Tony Robbins – “I’m Not Your Guru” – Questions for Thoughtful Christians

Several years ago, I watched the Netflix documentary about Tony Robbins entitled “I’m Not Your Guru.”

It raised numerous questions for me. Questions that I’ve discussed with at least one other person.

But I’d like to encourage those of you who have Netflix to watch it. Robbins uses expletives most people use the words “and,” “but,” and “like,” so you may not want to have children around if you dare to watch it.

I’m not going to share my observations, impressions, and reactions to the documentary. Not in this post anyway. Nor am I going to give my own answers to my questions.

Instead, I’d like to throw it out to all of you.

Watch the video first please. After you view it, here are my questions:

  1. To your mind, what are the differences between a Charismatic (or Pentecostal) revival event and the event you watched in this documentary?
  2. What power is Tony drawing from to help the people he spoke to? Substantiate your answer.
  3. What helps people more in life? A Tony Robbins event (like the one you saw in the documentary) or the typical Christian church service? Justify your answer.
  4. What can God’s people learn from these events that Robbins puts on as presented in this documentary?
  5. If you’ve been to a Tony Robbins event and you are a follow of Jesus Christ, share your experience of that event (or events) with us.
