More today from my Saturday “Jesus Blog” – a word from Jesus to you…
Remember Mary Poppins? She arrived as a nanny with a carpetbag, then pulled from it items that could not possibly have fit in it – a potted plant, a wall mirror, a hatstand, a lamp. She did this with calm confidence. She did not wonder whether the bag would work for her this time; she just pulled stuff out of it.
I want you to trust me like that.
Don’t try to pack your bag with everything you might possibly need — a bag of tricks, Bible verses you’ve memorized, answers to tough questions, or a smart reply for your detractors.
Just trust me. I will give you what you need in the moment. Your best answers come from me, not from you.
Don’t forget that you live in a culture enslaved to the right answer. But for all the increased knowledge and Bible learned, have people become more compassionate, more loving, more helpful to the wounded?
Just follow me. And bring an empty bag.
