1. Gabby Douglas

When U.S Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas was on the Olympic podium with her team during the National anthem, she — in all of the excitement — forgot to place her hand over her heart.

Immediately, she apologized:

“I never meant any disrespect and apologize if I offended anyone. I’m so overwhelmed at what our team accomplished today and overjoyed that we were able to bring home another gold for our country.”

In other words, Gabby was not trying to make some sort of political statement.  However, check out how  some athletes purposely have shown disrespect during the national anthem and how one basketball coach taught his players the lesson of a lifetime!
