1. I can’t help it, always feel like the above photo when men try to help me shoot.
Confession: even the most gentlemanly guy makes me feel like every 1980s movie ever made that has the guy trying to teach the girl to shoot pool. In the Warrior Woman Beginner Pistol Class, Dawn had a great male assistant who helped us on the range. He kindly asked, before we started, if it was okay if he placed his hands on our shoulders, back, or arms to help improve our shooting posture. (No one objected, but I’m sure if someone did the instructors would use verbal cues.) I was pretty nervous during my Carry Permit Class, and I found my anxiety returning when it was time to go back out on the range.
An “all woman’s” class might help make people who might get — wait for it — triggered by the combination of burly men and guns together in one place.
(Note: when it came time to put on our ear protection, the male assistant is the one who reminded us we might get a tighter fit if we take off our earrings!)
