Last night, President Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted a Halloween event at the White House. I’m sure the children were happy to know that Michelle relaxed her normally stringent nutrition requirements to hand out homemade sugar cookies.
President Obama told the kids there were apples — used in a dunking game — but indicated he would prefer the sweet stuff. “In fact, the more candy you eat, the later you eat the candy, the better.”
People magazine shared the recipe this morning — and it’s super simple.
The White House’s Halloween Cookie Recipe
Makes 18 to 22 cookies
1 lb. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 lbs. butter
1 tsp. salt
3 eggs
3 lbs. all purpose flour
1. Mix the butter and sugar till soft and well beaten. Then add eggs, vanilla, salt and half the flour. Beat on slow speed till mixed, then add the rest of the flour and mix until incorporated.
2. Push flat onto a cookie sheet and refrigerate overnight. Roll out to one quarter inch thick and cut out cookie shapes with cookie cutter.
3. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 14 minutes and allow to cool.
