7 Quick Takes Friday (posted a little early!)

7 Quick Takes Friday (posted a little early!) July 3, 2009

As tomorrow is husband and I’s six month anniversary of marriage, and we’re going to celebrate by painting our bedroom, then going to dinner — I probably won’t have time to post tomorrow.

1. I have had an eating experience that I simply must share. In my neighborhood there is a pizza place called Jockamo’s Pizza. It’s a pretty unassuming place, but they serve the most delicious pizza I’ve ever had — and I’ve had a lot of pizza.

Two nights ago we took a break from painting the office and decided to go to Jockamo’s. So we ordered a specialty pizza called the “So-Cal”. OH.MY.GOODNESS.

It had basil, avocado, yellow, red, and orange bell peppers, and goat cheese.

🙂

So good. If you come visit me in Indy, I will take you there for pizza.

2. I found this article that someone linked too from Facebook. Apparently the Vatican is having an “Apostolic Visitation” which will be headed by Mother Mary Clare Millea of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This visitation will meet with the heads of nearly all American orders of sisters. Nuns, who are cloistered and contemplative, will not be visited during this time. Mother Mary Clare will be seeking to discover if each American order is living up to it’s mission, and what, if any improvements can be made.

Now, while most of us are thinking “It’s about time!”, there are some people who aren’t excited for this growth opportunity. And even more surprising, many of them are the very sisters who are being visited.

This jewel of a paragraph from the article seeks to understand why:

“Some sisters surmise that the Vatican and even some American bishops are trying to shift them back into living in convents, wearing habits or at least identifiable religious garb, ordering their schedules around daily prayers and working primarily in Roman Catholic institutions, like schools and hospitals.”

Seriously? I mean, can you blame them, those brave souls who are rebelling against “wearing identifiable religious garb”? Living with other nuns, working for the Church in various capacities, being easily identifiable as in a religious community, why, it’s all too tragic! One might actually mistake them for nuns (gasp!).

3. President Obama has met with (some) Catholic reporters today, and he claimed that, ” his encounters with the cardinal [Bernardin] continue to influence him, particularly [the cardinal’s] “seamless garment” approach to a multitude of social justice issues.”

Oh really? That’s interesting, given what we know.

Here’s what the late Cardinal thinks:

“I don’t see how you can subscribe to the consistent ethic and … [feel] that abortion is a ‘basic right’ of the individual.” And “I know that some people on the left, if I may use that label, have used the consistent ethic to give the impression that the abortion issue is not all that important anymore, that you should be against abortion in a general way but that there are more important issues, so don’t hold anybody’s feet to the fire just on abortion. That’s a misuse of the consistent ethic, and I deplore it.”  (1988)

hhhmmmm. Seems a touch inconsistent to me.

4. To change gears slightly — navy blue is my new favorite color. Here’s why:Dress Vintage Day Seersucker Lucy Navy Blue Cardinal Cotton Frock Nautical by foofoogal on Etsy

5. Today I got four pints of blueberries for $5. That’s all. I had to share.

I don’t really have anything else to share right now, so I guess it’s going to be a 5 Quick Takes Friday. Oops. 🙂

Head over to www.conversiondiary.com to thank Jen for being a lovely hostess!

Happy 4th of July and God Bless!
