In the midst of my severe case of “baby fever”, I’ve sort of missed most of the house-buying process, delegating most of the question asking and contract reading to my husband (who is a lawyer and reads those kinds of things for fun). I’ve mostly been content to sign on the dotted line, listen to the loan officers, real estate people, etc., and think about how I want to decorate.
Lo and behold, one month after putting in an offer, the house is closing on Friday! We will become home-owners this week; how crazy is that? I’m so excited that we’re going to take possession of the house, though we will be moving in very s-l-o-w-l-y and probably won’t be totally moved in until mid-April. We haven’t even started packing yet.
But I’m so happy to tell all of you about the plans I have for our home!
Entryway: Since the house is on St. Joseph St. (how good of a sign is that?!) there will, of course, be an icon of St. Joseph in the entryway. Along with that, there is the black and white photo of the original owners (the house was built in 1936) standing in front. I’d like someone to take a photo of Atticus and I in front too, and hang them side by side. Too corny?
Living Room: I’m going to paint the LR a light blush-like grapefruit color, and use chocolate brown and teal as accent colors.
Dining Room: The Dr is already painted a really nice sort of light lettuce-y green, so we will leave that as is. I’d like to use some eggplant/plum sort of accent color, because it will look cool with the green.
Kitchen: The kitchen is already a really nice golden yellow color, which contrasts so well with the black and white tiled floor. However, the paint is looking old, so we’re going to find a matching shade and do a fresh coat. I’m not sure what color accents to use in the kitchen. I’m thinking of either sticking with black and white as accents, or including some red too (since we already have a few red things like a teapot, microwave, and cookbook stand).
Bedroom 1: Is painted a sort of vanilla-ish beige. That room will be our office/child’s room in the future. We’ll paint that a brighter shade of yellow (the same we painted our office here) and use some white and cream-y accents for a light, airy sort of space.
Bedroom 2: This will be the guest room, and is currently painted a pretty gross striped mix of light pink, mint green, and white. I think it must have been a little kid’s room – the ceiling is even pink! We’re going to paint this room a blue of some kind, with white and red accents, maybe to be more patriotic?
Bedroom Suite: The master suite is huge and really neat because it was made from half of the attic. The walls are a sort of blah beige, so we’ll paint them probably a golden yellow with white and cobalt accents. It’s the only room of the house with carpet, and we are going to replace it because it is a nasty sort of vomit-green color. Haven’t decided on a color yet; probably something off-white.
If anyone has ideas for any of the rooms or colors I mentioned, please feel free to share! I’m very excited for decorating, but I’m also pretty inexperienced with it too!
