Well, of course I am writing about this. Most of you probably already know about it, but just in case you’ve been out of the loop living under a rock for the last few months… Freedom of religion is well, it’s damn important and it’s under attack. Of course it’s not the first time in the history of our Church that we’ve been attacked, and it certainly won’t be the last. We all know that. However, this time it seems... Read more

Friends, there’s a lot going on here this week, so I don’t have the time I’d like to devote to a post. We’re going out of town this weekend for Atticus’ birthday and Father’s Day. Lots of laundry, packing, and sneakily wrapping birthday/Father’s day presents. I’m hoping to have Quick Takes up on Friday (if I’m a good girl and get all my chores done!)…but in the meanwhile I have to share this wonderful video that was recently made of... Read more

7. I had jury duty this week, but not really. I got a summons, saying I could be called down any day from Monday through Thursday. So of course I had to have someone “on call” to watch Maggie if I had to go downtown. My poor MIL ended up staying with us from Monday afternoon until dinner time on Thursday…and they never called me in! Not complaining, mind you, but it’s sort of frustrating that they couldn’t just let... Read more

Here in Part II of this series on sustainable eating, I will look at some of the nuts and bolts ways to save money on sustainably raised/grown food. 1. Farmer’s Markets or Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Go to the farmer’s market! No, seriously. Go. It’s nearly June. Summer is upon us and farmer’s markets are bursting with delicious, sustainable produce just begging to be eaten. There’s nothing like the first strawberries of the season. Local Harvest is an amazing website... Read more

I’ve been wanting to do a post on eating sustainably on a budget for a long time. This post is not going to try and convince anyone of why they should buy and eat sustainably grown or raised food. I think you should. I think everyone should. But that is not what this post is all about. If you’ve ever thought to yourself “Gosh, I’d love to eat locally/seasonally/sustainably, but it’s so damn expensive” then this post is for you.... Read more

7. It’s been really quiet over here because we had a house guest! My dear, dear family friend Glo who was present at Maggie’s birth came to visit this week (and to see Maggie for the first time since her birth!). We had a blast. Went to the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Zoo, the Children’s Museum, took a lot of walks, obligatory shopping, and some really great meals out. 6. I also addicted her to Say Yes to the... Read more

Have you ever read a book that was a game changer? Finishing it forever altered your view of life, love, death, or some other thing which matters? I’m sure you have. I know I have. I thought it would be fun to devote today’s QT to books which have been game changers for me so far in my 28 years of life. In no particular order, and only 7 of many, many books which have shaped who I am. 7.... Read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Mother’s Day. Unsurprisingly, I don’t remember the first several Mother’s Days of my life. Then, when I was seven, my mother died. Following that were 17 Mother’s Days spent like a fish out of water, giving cards and gifts to the many “mothers” in my life, trying like hell to ignore the mother-shaped hole in my heart until sundown when the tears came. And they always came. Then, there was the Mother’s Day two... Read more

7. Oh my goodness, it would seem it’s been two weeks since my last post. How I’ve missed you all. I was so busy getting ready for our trip to Nashville, then going on the trip to Nashville, then recovering from said trip. Then my child decided she didn’t need to nap…for three days. Two of which Atticus was in DC for a business trip. I’ve spent the rest of the week recovering my sanity. I think if I recieve... Read more

7. You guys, the farmer’s market opens next weekend. So excited! There’s a winter farm market, but it’s inside so it doesn’t have the same vibe as the summer one. So stinkin’ excited for the produce. The green onions, garlic scapes, chard, and whatever else might be there! What an adventure. 6. We’re going to Nashville next week for my sister in law’s wedding. Atticus sister is getting marred next Saturday, and we’ll be going down on Wednesday to spend... Read more
