** 1** My husband (the Lawyer) and I are participating in the 40 Days for Life vigil here in Indianapolis this fall. 40 Days for Life is an international campaign of prayer and fasting to end abortion. Basically, each city that participates has a 40 day vigil (from 7am – 7pm each day) outside of an abortion facility. The vigil includes both private and corporate prayer. Jesus said in the Gospel that some demons can only be driven out with... Read more

I belong to a group called Spirit and Truth here in Indy; the group was actually started, as far as I can tell, by St. Stanislaus Kostka parish in Chicago, where they have the Sanctuary of the Divine Mercy. I can’t really describe it, because it is so amazing, but I will post a photo from their website and some information from it as well. The above photo is of the Mary-shaped monstrance and Jesus in the middle. Wow, right?... Read more

I have really enjoyed reading both of Wendy Shalit’s books, A Return to Modesty and The Good Girl Revolution. She calls modesty the ‘lost virtue’ and lauds young women who choose to act against the culture in our sex-saturated world. Both of these books have given me a lot to think about as far as my own example regarding modesty, and the importance of showing girls beautiful, fashionable, modest role models. Here are some of my favorite passages from each... Read more

Around the time I was preparing to make Confirmation, I no longer felt close to the Church or God, but being Confirmed was something I did because all of my friends ( I had none who I was aware of being non-Catholic) were doing, and because my family insisted. I didn’t understand this, and felt indignant. They did not go to Church, why should I? I was the only 13 year old I knew who went to Mass alone every... Read more

** 1 ** Friends, I have had it. What I mean, of course, is that I’ve had it with the shenanigans passing for life in these United States. Though it may seem as though I like posting incendiary information about how the world is going to hell in a handbasket, I actually hate politics, especially Church politics. I studied political science for one semester in college, before I realized that if I continued on that trajectory I would probably end... Read more

St. Gianna Beretta Molla I had a miscarriage in March. My husband and I are trying again to conceive, but have not yet had success. I read an article about some women who either had high-risk pregnancies or trouble conceiving and were able to deliver healthy babies after praying for St. Gianna’s intercession. So husband and I have decided to pray her novena this month and to further this end, I’ve recently acquired a medal of St. Gianna that has... Read more

I LOVE this book! If you are Catholic and you have a house, you need to read this! It goes through the liturgical year’s feasts and holidays, as well as the sacraments and daily devotionals, and gives all kinds of trivia, ideas, and tips for incorporating the life of the Church into your home life. I’m going to talk a little bit about some of her information on daily devotionals in the home, and my take on them, as well... Read more

In honor of Mary’s birthday, I’m going to post a poem I wrote about her in 2007. Please be gentle, I am an amateur. Gratia Plena The smooth cool silver of the cross glides across my palm small fingers moving along crystal beads the color of roses in spring; Closing my eyes I see you before me – You, who have known so many forms and names through history – Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fatima, Lourdes; Pit stops... Read more
