What’s with Minnesota?

It looks like comedian Al Franken will be the new senator from Minnesota. A recount has him beating incumbent Republican Norm Coleman by a mere 225 votes. Legal challenges remain, but still. See Minnesota Board Calls Senate Race for Franken – WSJ.com.

What is it with Minnesota? This is the staunch Midwestern culture of Lake Wobegone fame. But it also elected a professional wrestler to be its governor. Minnesota has to be in the reality the wildest and craziest state in the union.

Seriously, I mean no disrespect to the great state of Minnesota, so often confused with Wisconsin where I used to live. But Wisconsin, for all of its eccentricities, would never elect, well, professional clowns as their political leaders. What is it in the land of Lakes that creates this propensity, unique in the nation? Many of you prized readers live there, so please explain.
