Democrats hold big lead in PAC fundraising

Democrats hold big lead in PAC fundraising July 28, 2014

Democrats make a big show of bemoaning the influence of big corporations in elections and the Supreme Court ruling that allows for the formation of super-Political Action Committees that threaten to buy elections.  But guess what?  Democrats currently hold a 2 to 1 advantage when it comes to super PAC contributions.  The biggest such fund?  Americans for Responsible Solutions, which is supporting candidates in favor of gun control.

From As Election Day nears, Democrats lead in fundraising, USA TODAY:

Democratic-aligned super PACs headed into the summer with a more than 2-to-1 cash advantage over Republican political action committees, many of which spent heavily on bruising Senate primaries, a USA TODAY review of the latest federal campaign reports shows.

Liberal-leaning groups account for four of the five groups with the biggest bank accounts to date.

The analysis looked at the balance sheets of super PACs that have collected at least $100,000.

Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ gun-control PAC has amassed the biggest war chest of the groups examined. The Democrat’s political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions, ended June with more than $9 million in cash reserves.
