Media union endorses Bernie Sanders

The Communications Workers of America endorsed the socialist candidate for the Democratic nomination for the presidency, Bernie Sanders. This is the biggest union to come out for Sanders, with most of the others supporting Hillary Clinton.

What most of the media reports about the CWA are omitting is that this is the union representing, along with telephone employees, newspaper workers (The Newspaper Guild) and broadcasters (National Association of Broadcasters).

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders picked up his largest labor union endorsement on Thursday morning, winning the backing of the 700,000-member Communications Workers of America.

The boisterous announcement at the union’s headquarters in Washington bucked a trend of national labor groups throwing support behind the party’s front-runner, Hillary Clinton. Her campaign now claims the support of 18 national groups collectively representing nearly 12 million workers.

Chris Shelton, president of the communications workers, said his union’s endorsement followed a poll of its membership, which “voted decisively” for the senator from Vermont. Shelton would not release the totals. He promised his union would put “feet on the street” to help Sanders win in early nominating states and beyond.
