DISCUSS: Should We Ban Drug Advertising on TV?

I never understood TV ads for prescription medicine.  Doctors have to prescribe that, right?  So why are the pharmaceutical companies paying big bucks to advertise these specialized medicines to the masses?  I can only conclude that patients are nagging their doctors to prescribe the medicines they see on TV.  And that the doctors are giving in to them!

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., our new Secretary of Health and Human Services,  among his many initiatives to Make America Healthy Again, wants to ban those ads.

Do you think that’s a good idea?  Or, even if you hate the ads, do you believe the government should just stay out of it and respect the companies’ freedom of speech?
