Ban Russia from the Olympics? July 22, 2016

An arbitration court confirmed that Russia’s track and field team, which was caught in a major doping and cover-up scandal, can be banned from the Olympics.  The ruling also opened the door to banning the entire Russian delegation, if the International Olympics Committee so decides.

The decision clears the way for the International Olympic Committee to heed the call of more antidoping officials, athletes and members of its own athletes’ commission to support a ban of the entire Russian team. Those calls intensified this week after another World Anti-Doping Agency report detailed how the Russian Ministry of Sport conspired to corrupt the antidoping lab at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and hid performance-enhancing drug use for more than five years.
