There are moments in life when we feel the weight of fear, uncertainty or misalignment pressing heavily against our spirit. We pray for clarity, for direction, for relief. And often, without fully realizing it, we are praying for deliverance; not only from something but into something greater.

As Christians, we profess that Jesus is our Savior. But He is also our Deliverer; the One who rescues, restores, redirects and realigns us with who God created us to be. Deliverance is not only about being freed from bondage; it is about being ushered into a life of purpose, identity and holy confidence.

Psalm 34:5 states, “I sought the LORD, and he answered me, delivered me from all my fears.” (usccb.org)  Fear is often the first chain He breaks.

Throughout my faith journey, and particularly this past year, I have become more aware of the specific ways that Jesus delivers me. Sometimes it is from doubt. othertimes from discouragement. Sometimes from striving that leads nowhere but to exhaustion. And often, the deliverance is subtle. It is an inner nudge that redirects my steps, softens my heart or invites me back into alignment with God’s purpose.

Jesus’ deliverance is not merely an event; it is a rhythm woven into the life of every believer. Colossians 1:13 reminds us, “He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,” (usccb.org)

Delivered From: Fear, Striving and Misalignment

When Galatians 5:1 tells us, “For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.” (usccb.org), it is reminding us that deliverance is a gift God never intended for us to outgrow. We are not meant to live in fear, shame or spiritual confusion. Yet how often do we slip back into old patterns by trying to carry burdens God never intended us to hold? Jesus delivers us from:

Fear

Fear whispers that we are not enough, that we must shrink, that our purpose is too risky. But Jesus calls us into courage. When we seek Him, He delivers us from the voices that keep us small and invites us to walk boldly in His truth.

Striving

So many women today (especially those balancing work, family and faith) live exhausted by the constant pressure to achieve, perform and please. But Jesus offers a different invitation:
Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, usccb.org)

Striving is replaced with surrender.  Burnout is replaced with blessing. Chaos is replaced with clarity.

Misalignment

When our life drifts away from our values or God’s direction, we feel it. We feel it spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Misalignment is uncomfortable because it signals that we are living outside the identity God designed for us. But deliverance brings us back to center, back to truth, back to Him.

Delivered Into: Identity, Purpose and God-Given Work

Christ does not only deliver us from, He also delivers us into. Scripture tells us, “He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,”  (Colossians 1:13, usccb.org) We are delivered into identity, delivered into calling and delivered into purpose. We are God’s workmanship, created with intention. Read Ephesians 2:10, “For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.”  (usccb.org)

That means your gifts, talents, strength, and passions are not accidental. They are purposeful. They equip you to serve, to lead, to love  and to shine. This understanding beautifully complements the themes I share in my work as a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach and in previous Graceful Awakening columns such as Who Did God Create You to Be. Jesus delivers us into the fullness of those strengths so we can bless others and thrive in our purpose.

In my column on work and purpose (Work Is for People; Not People for Work), we explore how human work is meant to honor God and uplift people.Jesus’ deliverance is foundational to this truth. A delivered heart works differently. It works not for approval but from identity; not for worth but from calling. Remember Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you—oracle of the LORD—plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope.”  (usccb.org)

Deliverance as a Daily Journey

Many people imagine deliverance as a one-time event, but Scripture paints a different picture. Deliverance is the ongoing, gentle, transformative work Jesus does in us as we walk with Him. Psalm 37:23–24 reassures us that, “The valiant one whose steps are guided by the LORD, who will delight in his way, May stumble, but he will never fall, for the LORD holds his hand.”  (usccb.org) Every step we take is guided. He is there to catch us if (when) we fall.  Every moment is held by the One who delivers us.

Some days, deliverance looks like a new found peace. Other days, it looks like conviction that redirects our choices. And sometimes, it is simply the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit reminding us that we were created for more than this fear, more than this doubt and more than this misalignment. We are continually called to align our life.

How Deliverance Leads to a Purpose-Driven Life

When we embrace Jesus as our Deliverer, everything changes:

  • We see our work as ministry.
  • We stop apologizing for who God created us to be.
  • We serve joyfully because we are no longer carrying unnecessary weight.
  • We live with spiritual clarity, emotional strength and renewed identity.

God delivers us into our strengths so we can bless others. This is deliverance that leads to purpose. This is how we live out the truth of Awaken Your Faith. Align Your Life. Shine with Purpose. Deliverance awakens us. Alignment equips us. Purpose helps us shine. A delivered life is a freed life. We are free to serve, free to love and free to shine. We become empowered to live boldly, confidently and joyfully.

Practical Ways to Embrace Jesus’ Deliverance Today

So how do you embrace deliverance? Here are a few simple spiritual practices that open our hearts to Jesus’s ongoing deliverance:

1. Pause and Pray

Invite Jesus into whatever feels heavy or unclear. Deliverance begins with seeking Him.Let go and let God.

2. Name Your Freedoms

What has God already delivered you from? Recognizing this strengthens gratitude and faith. Speak gratitude and faith.

3. Reclaim Your Identity

Speak life over yourself:  “I am God’s beloved. I walk in purpose. I am free in Jesus.” Don’t just speak it, know it.

4. Lean Into Your Strengths

Your God-given gifts are vessels of purpose. Use them intentionally. How can you use your strengths to lift up others and build His Kingdom?

5. Serve with Joy

A delivered heart serves not from obligation but from abundance. Serve with and for the joy of serving.

Delivered to Shine

Know that Jesus doesn’t just deliver us so we can survive; He delivers us so we can shine. He delivers us from fear, confusion and striving. He delivers us into identity, clarity and purpose. Every step of the way, He walks with us. As we continue on our journeys in faith, in work and in calling, may we remember Jesus who leads us, lifts us and lovingly delivers us into the life God designed for us. He sends us as John 20:21 states, “[Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” (usccb.org)

Let’s pray together:

Father, Continue to help us to shine brightly, boldly and joyfully as Your children. Amen.
