John 6: Satisfied

John 6: Satisfied April 14, 2011

As human beings, we are rarely satisfied. We constantly seek something–food, water, shelter, money, fame, success, community, approval, love–the list is endless. But Jesus claims to offer satisfaction. How is this possible?

John 6:35 is his brief answer: “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.'” Jesus claimed to be the bread of life. With him, there would be no hunger, no thirst.

On a surface level, these words resonate–Jesus, as God, can supply what we lack. But that’s not all. In Christ, we can find peace, contentment, and unconditional love. It is in him we find true and lasting satisfaction that supersedes our daily struggles for a fulfilling life.

When we forget he is our satisfaction, we flounder through other alternatives. Some offer a temporary fix, but none quench our thirst for long.

Only Jesus can meet us where we are, take us where we need to be, and support us each step of the way.

Satisfied.
