2 Timothy 2: Future Generations

2 Timothy 2: Future Generations October 5, 2011

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” -2 Timothy 2:2

At the end of Paul’s life, one of the things that mattered most was leaving a legacy. Rather than cash or notoriety, he desired to make a difference that outlived his human existence.

How do we know this? 2 Timothy 2:2 shares Paul’s perspective: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” He had poured his life into Timothy. In turn, he challenged Timothy to invest in the lives of others who would do the same.

The application is clear: Who are you pouring your life into who will serve as your living legacy beyond your lifetime? Is it a friend at work, a child you sponsor in another country, or a younger believer in need of a role model an encouragement? The goal is to choose someone and to commit to helping them grow spiritually. When you do, you won’t have to worry whether you will be remembered after you die; you’ll still be living, through the lives and actions of others.
