Hebrews 4: The Living Word

Hebrews 4: The Living Word October 19, 2011

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” -Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is not only inspired–it is alive! If it is truly the word of God, then it is an extension of him for our benefit. Reading or hearing Scripture is hearing directly from God. As a result, it pierces our souls, probing into the deepest reaches of the human heart.

Further, Scripture judges or evaluates the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing we think is hidden from God; reading Scripture help US to see ourselves as he sees us. When we do, we can better spot our imperfections and impurities, choosing to follow his way rather than our own.

The Bible points to way to flee from and the way to flee to. We may not always understand its teachings, but we cannot neglect its wisdom. It is far too powerful to leave out of any major decision.

If your time in Scripture has faded, make time today to refocus on the words of our Creator. He longs to hear from you and speak to you, offering hope for life today.
