Hebrews 5: Grow Up!

Hebrews 5: Grow Up! October 20, 2011

11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” -Hebrews 5:11-14

God expects his followers to grow up! Coming to faith in Christ is step one, not the end of the journey. In response to the new life we have been given in him, we are called to mature in our understanding and application of God’s Word.

Let’s look at the facts: millions of Bibles are printed in the U.S. each year; the average Christian has four Bibles. Yet few can say they read on any regular basis. We are weak and infantile when we neglect God’s truth. To change, we must feast on the solid food of Scripture. Only tehn can we mature, understanding the differences between good and evil. Grow up.
